play by: Jason Isaacs
features: Lucius has long, fine, light blond hair, which he is very proud of. It is almost always worn loose. His eyes are cold and grey, the traditional Malfoy colour. He has pale skin and angular features, including a strong nose and jawline.
build: Lucius weighs 162lbs, stands at 6”2 and has a slightly muscular body type. He used to be very toned, but put on a bit of weight as he reached middle age. He is still in pretty good shape, though.
distinctions: As a Death Eater, Lucius has the Dark Mark on his left forearm, and a scar across his left shoulder which he got whilst protecting Narcissa during a duel with Sirius Black in the first war. Another notable scar on his right knee from when he fell off a broom as a child.
style: Being raised by quite a strict family meant that Lucius was taught that personal grooming and looking pristine was important, and as such he is rarely seen looking dishevelled, even when at home with his family. As a proud person, Lucius has no qualms about showing off his wealth with expensive and fashionable robes. Although they are sometimes quite traditional, he dresses sharply and is usually in black. Aside from his wedding ring, Lucius is usually sporting his Father’s silver and black opal ring as well. He never leaves the house without his cane, an accessory and tool his Grandfather gave to him when he was a teenager. He received it as reward for becoming Champion in the Duel Club at Hogwarts. The cane helps as a shield against some spells when he is duelling, and his wand is concealed within it.

overview: As an only child, Lucius grew up believing that he was the best thing that happened to the world. His Mother adored him, and his Father was constantly singing his praises within their social circle. As such he oozes confidence with a strong touch of arrogance. He wholly believes he is ineffable and capable of doing absolutely anything. Lucius is a very sociable person amongst those he regards as his equals, it’s all about keeping up appearances. He can be charming, but to people who aren’t within his circle, Lucius is often reserved and cold. To anyone he suspects of being a mudblood, he either ignores or finds a way to insult.
There was a point where Lucius, having just graduated from Hogwarts and started working at the Ministry, genuinely believed he was going to be the Minister for Magic. These hopes were quickly dashed when war broke out and he had to reveal his colours, and he was always frustrated that he was unable to have an official title at the Ministry. However he managed to remain involved by regularly contributing large donations to ensure that his opinions and arguments were still heard by the Minister, and he often mixed with Wizengamot members and other worthy Ministry workers.
Lucius was pushed to work hard whilst at Hogwarts, and this continued after he graduated. As such he is proud of the things he has worked hard at, mainly his family, his home and his reputation. Although this was tarnished after the war, he managed to regain status within the wizarding community. Being a proud and somewhat arrogant person, Lucius is convinced that he and Narcissa are the most beautiful pairing in the universe, so he’s always getting the latest fashions for him and his wife, as well as opulent jewellery. He is often seen flaunting his majesty when out and about.
Being arrogant as well as an elitist, Lucius often seems cold to people he doesn’t know or like. He has a habit of looking down his nose as he was brought up to believe that there are different breeds of people, and that some of them are just inferior to those in his family. He acts accordingly and can be brisk, insulting, pompous and snide. Having said this, Lucius is also proud as stated above, and this means that he is very protective over those he is close to. His family mean the world to him, more than his loyalty to the Dark Lord, and so he spoils his wife and children to no end. He is loyal and relatively kind to a very select few friends who he regards as his extended family [what with them all being purebloods they probably are]. Aside from these few, Lucius is willing to throw everyone else in danger’s way to get what he wants.

monetary: Rich.
overview: Lucius was an only child, and was quite spoilt by his family. Entering Hogwarts as a little arrogant, rich and spoilt kid, Lucius was pretty mischievous to begin with, and often picked on other kids. This lasted until he was about 13, when his Grandfather, someone he’d been very close to, passed away. After about a year of mourning, Lucius finally started to focus on his studies and getting top grades as his Grandfather had always urged him to do.
One of his closest friends was a Glaswegian pureblood called Malcolm Cornfoot. Their fathers knew each other through support of the Dark Arts. He met Malcolm as a child and they grew up together. When they attended Hogwarts, they were both sorted into Slytherin. Lucius had lots of other friends but he remained best friends with Malcolm throughout the rest of his life.
Lucius met Narcissa when he was about a year old, and Narcissa was still in a baby cot. The Malfoy and Black families were relatively close, and so he and Narcissa were friends when they were children. On starting Hogwarts this changed slightly, as both teenagers were trying to find themselves, and were a little rebellious to their parents’ urges to spend more time together. When they were both made Prefects together for Slytherin house in their 5th year, and actually got to know one another again, they started to fall in love. After they both left Hogwarts they got married and not long after had a son, Draco. A couple of months later, in the happy aftermath of their first born, Narcissa announced she was pregnant again. 9 months later, she had a daughter, who Lucius named Tegan.
Lucius’ father and grandfather were both staunch supporters of Grindelwald, and so naturally when news of an even stronger dark wizard filtered through the wizard-vine [magic grapevine, yo] Lucius quickly signed up. Alongside Malcolm Cornfoot, whose father had also supported Grindelwald, he joined the Death Eaters. He was still at Hogwarts when he got his Dark Mark, and was devoted to the Dark Lord when he graduated from school. Although his parents were proud of his ideological choice, his Mother still pushed him into getting a job at the Ministry of Magic where he worked for a time in the Minister’s Office.
Once war broke out, Lucius lost his job at the Ministry and spent a few years trying to convince everyone that he’d been acting under the Imperius Curse to stop him from being convicted as a Death Eater and sent to Azkaban. Picking up the pieces after his Dark Lord’s demise wasn’t easy, but it meant that Lucius focused a lot more attention and time on his wife and children. He easily managed to build his social status back up and became very influential in the Ministry. He had many contacts, including the Minister of Magic himself, and his close friend Malcolm Cornfoot who managed to keep his post in the Ministry.
After the Dark Lord’s fall, Lucius spent a lot of time with his children. He taught them to hate muggles and mudbloods from the beginning and was there for many of the important events in their lives. As a father, Lucius was loving but strict, especially with his son. Like his own father before him, he wanted Draco to do well in all areas of his life and pushed him to excel in his studies, as well as in other areas, such as obtaining contacts and influential positions. Draco, however, was a mummy’s boy, there was no denying it. Narcissa doted on her son obsessively and so Lucius took an ever increasing interest in his daughter, who he considered to be his little princess. He spoilt Tegan and gave in to her every whim. This closeness grew when Draco left to attend Hogwarts and Tegan was left at home for a year, so Lucius made sure that he showered her with attention. He was sad to see her go to Hogwarts the following year. He was incredibly proud, though, that both his children were sorted into Slytherin house.
Lucius learnt that Harry Potter was attending Hogwarts in the same year as his son and, in Harry Potter’s second year, slipped the Dark Lord’s horcrux, a diary, into the cauldron of Ginny Weasley. His plot to ruin Arthur Weasley and his career was discovered when it began to show more sinister connotations and he was fired from his role as school governor. Over the next two years, he tried to damage Potter but indirectly. When he learnt of the boy’s death, he was ecstatic but realised that the Dark Lord’s return, which had been signalled at the Quidditch World Cup, was imminent. He returned to his old master and swore his allegiance again. The Dark Lord accepted him, but not before making sure he remembered that he had deserted the Dark Lord. However, in light of the new social order, and with the Ministry at Voldemort’s hands, the Dark Lord appointed Lucius the new Minister of Magic. Whilst this was an honour, one that Lucius had dreamt of for a long time, it was bittersweet. He was Minister, but only in name- all orders came from the Dark Lord, who wanted Lucius to do his dirty work for him. Saying this, he realised that it was better than the positions many others had received.
Sorry for just going ahead with the Minister bit, but hope it’s ok!

sample:
It was just no use. No matter how hard Lucius tried to write a letter to Draco, he just couldn't get it right. He wanted to reassure his son that everything at home was well, but he just couldn't write it without pouring too much out onto the page. But when he'd tried to withhold everything it just seemed too cold and impersonal, his son would surely know something was wrong, and he didn't want to make out that there was. Lucius was supposed to be happy, after all, that the Dark Lord had returned. It wouldn't be long until the Ministry was truly under their control, and everyone would know that Magic is Might.
But Lucius wasn't happy. He was constantly being reminded that he was a coward for not trying to find his old Master after the last war, for not admitting his support with pride, for not going to Azkaban like his sister-in-law Bellatrix had. Her contempt for him was becoming insufferable, and the Manor was stifling. He knew that Narcissa was pleased her sister had escaped, and that she was back, so Lucius tried to be accommodating, but he was growing tired. Each day it felt like the Manor was being taken over, and it was insulting.
After throwing the last failed letter into the fire and staying for a moment to see it blacken and become ash, Lucius left his study and finally made up the stairs to retire for the night. He found Narcissa in their room, sitting at the dressing table. He didn't say anything as he entered the room, but he brushed a hand across her shoulder as he passed her, and began to get undressed, ready for bed.
