For every student at Hogwarts School, the holidays were perhaps the greatest time of the academic year...because they weren't part of the academic year. Well, for most students that was. Tegan was certainly one of them. She hated school, hated the workloads and the essays and the homework. It just irritated her and bored her and she just wanted to be at home, or out with friends or, better yet, shopping. Her mother had indulged her that morning by taking her to Diagon Alley and buying her some new clothes. She'd tried them on in the shop and had decided to wear them that day, which would have annoyed most parents but didn't seem to bother Cissa at all- if Tegan messed up her new clothes, they'd just buy her some more, after all.
What happened next was considerably more dull for the young girl. Since it was an important time for the Ministry, Narcissa had suggested that Lucius take the children. Draco, as usual, had managed to worm his way out of it when Cissy backtracked and remembered that Draco had friends to go and see. Tegan, however, cancelled her plans and was dropped off by her mother at the Ministry. She sat, bored out of her brains, in her father's office, lazing back in the chair and looking up at the ceiling. Her father had been in a meeting elsewhere and so she'd done a few sneaky charms around the room to rearrange things. She had no intention of owning up to it, even though she was the only person allowed in there...
"It was the intern," she told Lucius when he stepped through the door and nodded towards an awkward looking young boy sat at the desk outside the office door. She gave him one of her 'I'm not going to admit it so don't even bother trying to get me to' sort of looks, and continued doodling on a Ministry Employee's file.

It was all still quite new to Lucius. Even though he'd dreamt of being the Minister for Magic for a long time, it still felt unreal to him that he was there, wandering back down through the depths of the Ministry to his main office, which was hidden away deep underground. He'd considered moving everything up to the Atrium of the Ministry where his public office was, so that he could have a grander view of his Ministry, his new domain, but a quick discussion with security made him realise that it was better to be safe than obvious.
With his head held high, and his aide following hot on his heels, Lucius swept into the outer office and glanced at some of his staff. All eyes were down, except for when they greeted him, and he smirked, enjoying the fact that he commanded respectable and hard-working staff.
He made a comment or two about getting briefings prepared before he left for home in roughly an hour's time so that he could prepare for tomorrow, before he opened the door to his office and stepped inside. On seeing the state of his office the smug expression on his face fell. He looked from the files strewn on the floor, to the plant pot which was overturned and spilling soil, to the puddles of ink on the floor, before his eyes settled onto his daughter who was sat in his chair. He opened his mouth to speak but she beat him to it. He considered her for a moment before he spoke in that deliberate voice.
"Come over here," he said, gesturing for her to join him by the door.

Usually, Tegan would have gotten away with it. If it wasn't for that meddling intern, she thought to herself, assuming that he must have said something before her father came into the room. How else would she be in trouble? She was never in trouble with Lucius. The worst that had ever happened was when he'd smacked the back of her hand after her near-death experience; apparently 5 year olds couldn't swim in centuries old, deep rivers.
It was entirely boring in the Ministry. She'd been here before when her father had virtually inhabited the building before. Fudge had been close friends with Lucius- well, they seemed it anyway, the reality was quite the alternative- but now Lucius had usurped Fudge's place. And rightly so, Tegan thought. Her father was an idol for all pureblood men and they should aspire to be like him. But that didn't mean she wanted to be there. In fact, the only time she actually felt like setting foot in the place was when Mr Cornfoot brought Stephen along with him too, and the pair of them could stroll the corridors, causing...well...a little mayhem. Now they could stroll the corridors like royalty, but Stephen wasn't there today.
At her father's words, she gave a loud sigh, but stood up. As she walked towards him, her feet dragged across the floor. She made sure to look as irritated as she could, and she even kicked a couple of pens lightly as she walked past them. "What?" she asked, quietly and sweetly, as though she was entirely innocent.

Lucius watched his daughter approaching him, and marked the way that she kicked a few things about as she went. He had quite a good idea of who the real perpetrator in this mischief was, but Tegan was his little princess and he wouldn't ever dream of punishing her. As with Draco, he couldn't fathom the idea of her doing any wrong. And the idea of Tegan cleaning anything up in her life was also alien, that's what house elves are for, after all. But someone had to clean up the mess, and as Lucius held out an arm to her so she would come closer, he explained what he wanted.
"Why don't you show me which intern made the mess?" he asked in a quiet voice, as he opened the door to his office so he could see his staff again. "Point them out, Princess." There were a little cluster of desks in the corner where three interns worked, dealing with the boring and most arduous jobs in the office. They were still new, and Lucius hadn't bothered learning their names yet. He didn't intend to until one of them actually did some work which impressed him, but being as they only had boring tasks to do, it was unlikely he'd be putting in much effort to get to know them any time soon.

She had thought she was going to be punished but Tegan realised she should have thought better- after all, this was her Daddy. He wouldn't punish her. She could murder somebody and he wouldn't punish her for it. He might even encourage it. Perhaps the worst she could do was to marry a mudblood and betray her family but she had absolutely no intention of doing that. At all. The thought of kissing anyone inferior to a pureblood made her feel sick so marrying them...She'd have shuddered had she not been so busy deciding which of her unsuspecting victims she'd blame.
None of them seemed to be looking up yet and she made a point of "hmming" to catch their attention. She stood by Lucius, imitating his cold stare, and pointed at the eldest boy there. She knew that it would have been funnier to see the youngest suffering but she also knew what it was to be the youngest. Besides, it was a lot more interesting bringing them down from the top, the boy who'd worked there the longest, so his reputation would be rocky, teetering on the edge.
"Him," she replied, as though she didn't really want to give information away, but was being forced to.
