play by: Peter Capaldi
features: Malcolm has a pale complexion, a long face with high cheekbones and a rather prominent nose which is a little beaky. His pale watery blue eyes are an oval shape, heavily lidded, and his short hair is dark, and greying, and has a slight curl to it.
build: Malcolm is 6”3 and about 155lbs. He’s thin but has a good strong build. He’s a lightweight, but strong enough to hold his own in a fist fight.
distinctions: Dark Mark on his left forearm. Big scar on his back which runs along his spine, and another that runs across the bottom of his ribcage to his right-hand side, both of which he received during the first war.
style: Malcolm dresses like a gentleman, just as his Father did, and is usually in suits and dress robes, looking smart and presentable. When he was younger he was more rebellious and considered himself a bit of a punk, with messy hair, shirt hanging out and tie loosely done up [when it wasn’t wrapped around his head], but this stopped when he graduated from Hogwarts and started working at the Ministry. Once he got his first job, he adopted a classic style, which helped bring about his maturity. He never leaves the Lighthouse [his home in Scotland] without his silver pocket watch , and his wedding ring.
More often than not, Malcolm is smoking his pipe, which has dark wood and inlaid silver in a pattern similar to his Death Eater mask. The tobacco he uses gives off an array of different coloured smoke which smells different to everyone , and is affected by his mood. He sometimes substitutes his pipe for cigars on special occasions.
With quite poor eyesight, Malcolm is more often than not wearing his glasses, although he doesn’t always like to as he feels they give off the impression of weakness. He’s usually clean shaven, and well groomed, but he’s been known to skip a few days when in a hurry. [Might also be worth mentioning that Malcolm thinks he’s looks UNF with sideburns and often lets them grow a bit]
Although the Cornfoots are a wealthy family, Malcolm doesn’t lust after the most expensive and latest fashions to show off. He is relatively modest about his affluent background and his style reflects this.

adores:
- Music, art and culture
- Literature [especially Muggle literature, but shh!]
- Enid’s cooking, especially her carrot cakes, yum
- The sound of Stephen practising and playing his violin
- The calming feel of Enid’s skin against his in the morning
abhors:
- Muggles
- Philistines and people he deems as uncultured
- When Enid takes her recreational potions
- Being judged badly by his close family for some of his Death Eater activities - A few arguments with Enid were plenty to tell Malcolm he shouldn’t be open or honest with her about his recreational outings with the boys to muggle houses.
- Disorder and things being untidy
weakness:
- Very introspective and finds it difficult to let things go. He can be stubborn and he knows how to hold a grudge.
- Not especially very ambitious, and lacks motivation for most things.
- Isn’t very articulate in conveying his emotions and can be difficult to read.
- Although Malcolm is accomplished at Legilimency, his skills at Occulmency are nowhere near as good. He found the idea of exploring other people’s emotions and minds a lot more interesting than protecting his own. Knowing how easy it is to invade someone else’s privacy, and to manipulate their thoughts, makes Malcolm feel extremely vulnerable that he has such a weak defence for himself.
- Quite a jealous character
strength:
- Intelligent and a fast learner, Malcolm is astute and very observant.
- Creative and talented musician; Malcolm plays the piano and an array of other instruments.
- Able to keep his head down and keep a low profile [handy for keeping his identity as a Death Eater secret amongst the general Wizarding population].
- Protective and loyal – Malcolm would do anything to protect those which he is close to, friends and family
boggart:
- Losing his family. Although things are sometimes difficult with Enid and Stephen, and Malcolm isn’t always the best husband, or Father, he still loves them more than anything and the idea of losing them scares him.
- Even though Malcolm is part of the Death Eaters, and he detests muggles, he’s still fascinated by their culture, which is so much more vast than their own. Over the years he has collected books written by muggles which are part of a cherished collection, hidden in the Lighthouse. His favourite composers are also muggles, and he is afraid that one day his secret stash and collection will be discovered. It would mean the end of his career, for one, and knowing his Death Eater colleagues, it would probably mean the end of him and his family too. The idea that he could eventually be responsible for all that petrifies him.
- Being sent to Azkaban
amortentia:
- The woody, musky smell of the piano keys of his grand piano, which is in the drawing room of the Lighthouse.
- Paper, and old books.
- Freshly baked carrot cake [Enid’s speciality]
- Firewhiskey
mirror of erised: Malcolm would love to one day be conducting his own concerto for a symphony orchestra.
veritaserum: Secretly has a soft spot for muggle culture. He has a vast collection of muggle books and music. His abilities as a Legilimens and Occlumens are also closely guarded secrets that only a select few know about.
patronus: Robin – the feeling after Stephen’s first violin concert. Malcolm had spent a long time teaching Stephen and was incredibly patient in teaching him. This was one of few times when Malcolm really worked hard at something and he was proud of his son for taking after his Father and Grandmother, taking an interest in music and playing beautifully.
dementor: During the first war, Malcolm’s spine was injured badly in a fight. For just over a week he was unable to move much, and his private healers believed he would be paralysed for life. He eventually made good recovery, but still has a big scar running down his back.
overview:
Malcolm is a complicated man. Whilst he detests muggles and everything about them, he finds their culture fascinating and can’t resist studying their literature and indulging in their music. He partook in several incidents of muggle torture and even murder, yet he still can’t stop himself from being drawn to their creative outlets.
This isn’t the only area where Malcolm is conflicted. As he has quite a jealous personality, he’s spent most of his life being quietly jealous of Lucius Malfoy and his successes academically, in raising an arguably better family than Malcolm, and also in his role amongst Death Eaters. Even though Malcolm’s jealousy is consuming, he still regards Lucius as his best friend, and the Malfoys as his extended family. His jealousy can become toxic; but he still values his friendship and enjoys spending time with them.
Even though Malcolm mulls things over a lot, and has quite strong emotions, he’s not so great at understanding or showing them. Malcolm realises that he is conflicted, and actually quite absurd in the way that he feels about various things, and as such, feels he cannot describe his feelings or opinions to anyone without making a fool of himself.
He has quite a serious and professional demeanour, which means that most people find him cold and abrasive. To his friends and family, he has a dark sense of humour, but is loving and compassionate.

mother: Penelope Cornfoot (née Cameron)
father: Duncan Cornfoot
siblings: Jonathon Cornfoot [younger brother]
extended: Enid Cornfoot [Wife], Stephen Cornfoot [Son], Hecuba Marie Finley [Mother in law], Patrick Prias Finley [Father in law]
monetary: Affluent
overview:
Malcolm was born into a wealthy and pure family in Scotland, the first child of Penelope and Duncan Cornfoot. His Father was quite a strict man, and Malcolm was raised to have very traditional qualities, being polite, respectful and reserved. His Mother was quite the opposite, creative and loving; she taught Malcolm and his younger brother how to play music and encouraged them to take an interest in the arts.
When Malcolm finally got to go to Hogwarts he was sorted into the Slytherin house, much to his Father’s delight, as nearly all Cornfoot men had been Slytherins. He was glad to be sorted alongside Lucius Malfoy as well, a boy he’d met quite a few times at various purist gatherings when he’d been younger. The two boys wasted no time in making their names amongst classmates in their first year, causing mischief, but most times being cunning enough to avoid getting caught.
The fun and games lasted until Malcolm’s third year. Lucius’ Father had lectured him the whole summer about working harder at his grades, and just like that, Malcolm lost his playmate. The two boys remained close, but the mischief ended and Malcolm got bored. Things only got worse for Malcolm when his Mother passed away a month or so after. He was allowed a few weeks at home away from Hogwarts, but his Father sent him back to make sure he wouldn’t fall behind. Old Duncan Cornfoot might as well not have bothered, as Malcolm didn’t try very hard to do well in his studies and had very little motivation. He spent most of his time feeling miserable, especially as he still hadn’t been allowed to bring his violin to school with him.
Malcolm was also harbouring deep feelings of jealousy where Lucius was concerned. Not only was his friend more popular, a better student and better at magic, he was spoilt rotten by his two parents. He was also jealous because Lucius was on good terms with Narcissa Black, the hottest girl in their year. This jealousy continued long after they graduated from Hogwarts, and has been a niggling torment in the back of Malcolm’s mind since his teenage years.
By his fourth year, Malcolm started to act out. He had a foul temper and started to take it out on other students. His grades slipped further and surprisingly, it was one of the Ravenclaw girls he picked on, Enid Finley, who started to help him try harder. Enid took the time to understand Malcolm, calmed him down, and made sure he kept on top of his work. It helped that they both had an interest in the arts and literature as well.
Enid was unlike anyone Malcolm had met before, and even though his dorm-mates were displeased with Malcolm’s choice, he found himself falling in love with the strange little Ravenclaw girl. She had a unique type of beauty and Malcolm began spending more and more time with her, and eventually discovering that actually deep down, he was a bit of a romantic.
It wasn’t until his seventh year, when he earned his Dark Mark with Lucius that he really started to work harder at his studies. He’d heard about the purist utopia they were going to strive for, and he wanted to be a part of it. He also finally realised that he’d need to get good grades if he wanted to do anything worthwhile with his life. His hard work paid off, and with a little help from his well-connected Father, Malcolm managed to get a job working at the Ministry of Magic. Malcolm worked hard at the Ministry, but found that Lucius seemed to be doing much better than him due to his ability to network like a boss. Lucius was also managed to climb ranks amongst the Death Eaters, and Malcolm found himself being left on the side lines, and merely watching Lucius excel.
Not long after leaving Hogwarts, Malcolm married Enid Finley and she was soon pregnant with their first baby. The war was starting to gain pace when Enid gave birth eight months later. The baby boy was stillborn, and the couple grieved for a number of years. Finally Enid became pregnant again, and this time she gave birth to a healthy baby boy who they named Stephen. Malcolm grieved the loss of his first son, and loved his second, but couldn’t help being envious of Lucius who not only had a son, but managed a daughter as well.
During the war, Malcolm had managed to keep a low profile working at the Ministry gathering information for the Dark Lord. Whenever he went on missions, he made sure to keep his face masked, and so luckily managed to avoid imprisonment after the Dark Lord fell. Despite his jealousy of the others for climbing ranks, Malcolm realised that actually his reserved and quiet manner saved his life as a free wizard without being tarnished.
In the years following the Dark Lord’s defeat, Malcolm started to take greater interest in his family, and was determined for Stephen to grow up to be a better version of him. He started to teach Stephen the violin when he was at a young age, and encouraged his son to study and work hard, just as he hadn’t done. Malcolm had mixed feelings when Stephen was sorted into Ravenclaw, and in the years following this, their relationship has started to falter somewhat. Malcolm was determined for Stephen to be better than Draco Malfoy, and was convinced that Lucius was purposefully trying to best Malcolm in yet another area. As hard as Malcolm tried to instil some purist passion in Stephen, his efforts were in vain, and his son remains a moderate supporter. It’s also clear to Malcolm that his son is in no way interested in getting one over on the Malfoys.
When Lucius became the Minister of Magic, Malcolm was offered a promotion to become his Deputy, but he politely declined. Malcolm felt as though he’d spent most of his life in Lucius’ shadow, always a step behind, and believed that being his Deputy would be more humiliation than an honour. This was the second time that Malcolm was offered a different, and arguably better, job and the second time he’d declined a promotion. It’s not just the perks which kept him in the Department, but he enjoys his work too much, and feels that he is the best man for the job. He also has big plans to develop and revolutionise Wizarding culture, though he is waiting for the right moment to launch his new policy ideas. Unfortunately for Malcolm, as hard as he’s fought to bring in the current regime, it will prove a lot harder to bring in any big changes now that things are a lot stricter and purist censorship is hanging over his head like a sword.

alias: Lilli/Nuri [We're sharing this character]
age: 19/22
experience: eight years
timezone: GMT, London UK
secret phrase: fight it out
sample: [This post is from an AU plot on another site]From the volume of Lucius' voice, Malcolm thought that the man didn't seem so sure about what he'd said, and he felt an inner sense of triumph.
He had a feeling that Tegan wouldn't be too happy with her father attempting to sabotage her recent 'victory' and it made Malcolm himself feel like he had one over on Lucius.
He smirked and straightened up in his seat, feeling this shift in his emotions deserved a posture to mirror his inflating ego.
"You should have tamed her better, aye?" Malcolm laughed, draining the last of his glass and looking over as Lucius began to pour more drink.
"But seriously, they're just at a stage," he shrugged. In comparison to Lucius, Malcolm was slightly more liberal minded regarding Stephen and Tegan and their new ideas. He wanted to be a bit more lenient with them, though he didn't agree at all the the content of the ideas.
He was convinced it was just the excitement of power and youth, and they just needed to be taken down a peg or two.
He caught Lucius' smirk as the man looked at the bottle, and couldn't help but smirk too.
"Aye, they just need to know their place."
He stretched out again, feeling like he could.
"Why do you nae get her away from this cure business?" he suggested, thinking, himself, how he could encourage Stephen away from these odd, modern ideas.
"I'm sure you can find a way around her."
