I won't crawl on my knees for you
I won't believe the lies that hide the truth
Pern isn't what it used to be. The Northern continent is ruled by an iron-fisted dictatorship. Lesser Weyrs have been transformed into prisons for political rivals. Male Greenriders are despised and often nothing more than slaves. Descendants of a tyrant govern the Northern Empire from Benden Weyr and anyone who disagrees with them is forced to pay the price. But not everyone chose to submit to this gross abuse of power.
I won't sweat all day long for you
We sow the seeds to see us through
Long ago, when the dictatorship of Bronzerider F'rir was first established, an escaped Greenrider fled to the Southern Continent and, with the help of other malcontents, founded a new home. Today, they call themselves the Tribe and have developed their own unique customs and ideas. Though they practice a strict isolationism against the brutal North, they are often forced to Search from Northern holds to supplement their miniscule population.
Our days are precious and so few
We all reap what we are due
As the saying goes; all good things must come to an end. The isolationism that Tribal Weyr practiced so stringently over the turns was shattered. Though, as these things happen, it was not a single incident that finally broke the glass bubble they lived in.
The North, guided by the Benden Weyrleader and the coordinates supplied by his daughter, descended upon the Southern Continent to retrieve their stolen Telgar Queen and destroy the last free Weyr. Tribal. The Southerners were vastly outnumbered, but they proved themselves to be savage fighters. The siege lasted three days, and in a bizarre twist of fate the end of all the death was the beginning of new life. Lilliath, Senior Queen of Tribal, rose for her mating flight, challenging the Northern bronzes to chase while the Southern males used the opportunity to cut them down. With the death of the Northern Dictator and his dragon, the attacking forces fled back home disorganized and shaken. The clutch born of this flight has hatched quite a few healthy dragons.
A tentative peace settled between the North and the South as neither made any moves against the other. Still remaining in strict isolation, the Tribe soon discovered that peace was an illusion. A Tribal queen, assumed dead after her rider, a daughter of Telgar's Weyrleader, forced her to return North, crashed on Southern shores with eight eggs hidden by her broken body. The second queen to escape from the North, Zenith would not let her children be raised in the North. A Southern queen, she returned to her home long enough to ensure her children's safety. But surely the North won't stand for another queen getting away from them. It's only a matter of time before the shells crack and fate takes over.
The factions that were already beginning to emerge within the Tribe are solidifying and taking stands. The question still remains: should they try to reconcile with and rejoin the North or find a way to re-establish the secrecy that once kept them safe for so long? What side will you choose?
